The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has always subscribed to the belief that you should go out with style.  For that reason we are proud to present this year's Closing Night Film:   LIGHTBULB, a serious comedy about two friends - a small time inventor prone to blunders and a silver tongued salesman - who cope with failures and misfortunes before developing an invention that becomes a global craze.  Can this friendship that has survived so much adversity make it through sudden success?

SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling touched on LIGHTBULB in his opening press conference, affirming how timely the movie is in relation to the hard economic times we in the midst of.  Durling noted,  "It's based on a true story. Perfect for what's going on in the country. We've got to hang on to our entrepreneurial spirit and perseverance."

LIGHTBULB is directed by Jeff Balsmeyer - whose previous feature film DANNY DECKCHAIR (2004) was warmly received as the closing night film for the Toronto Film Festival - and written and produced by first-timer Mike Cram.  This romantic drama/comedy features an excellent cast including Dallas Roberts (I WALK THE LINE, 3:10 TO YUMA), Jeremy Renner, (THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES, THE HURT LOCKER), and Ayelet Zurer (MUNICH, ANGELS & DEMONS).  LIGHTBULB is a story of friendship, hope, and persistence in the face of hardships, disappointments and most trying of all:  triumph.  Be sure not to miss out on this warm hearted gem and this year's Closing Night Film.
